The Entertainment Software Ratings Board has rated Quake, the landmark first-person shooter published by id Software 25 years ago. This rating means that this product is a rerelease of the original and not a remaster. 49942

This rating (M for Mature) applies to the Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5 and Windows PC. It does not include Xbox One or Xbox Series X.

QuakeCon at the home online event will offer more information. It starts at 2 p.m. ET on Thursday and includes a discussion about Quake. Marty Stratton and Kevin Cloud, both from id Software, will discuss the game. Jerk Gustaffson of MachineGames, who created the Dimensions of the Past mission package to celebrate Quake’s 20th Anniversary in 2016, will also be speaking about the game. An unpublished description of QuakeCon’s Quake s referred to a “revitalized edition” of the game.

The quake was launched for Windows and MS-DOS computers on June 22, 1996. Later, it was ported to the Sega Saturn in 1997 and 1998, respectively. Because PC publishers took longer to participate in the ESRB (begin 1994), the original game was not rated.

Bethesda Softworks purchased id Software 2009 and has published one Quake title ever since. 2017’s Quake Champions Windows PC was released a year later.
